The wearable Penetrator armor set is unique to this remake. Now all of this was true in the original 2009 game, so what makes this remake so special?
You also have to find or buy items to replenish health, though some weapons and other items, such as rings, can replenish health as well. This is a bit different from the whole bonfire setup in Dark Souls, as Arch Stones in Demon’s Souls allow you to travel between areas as well as return to the safe hub area, the Nexus. So you can tackle these in whichever order you like and after defeating major demons in each area allows you to progress to the next level. Once you have beaten the first level on the first area, the other areas are unlocked. Miracles are normally based around healing or curing you of status ailments, though there are some destructive ones available as well.Įach of the five major areas have three levels a piece, with the first area having a few more. Magic and bow weapons mostly deal with ranged attacks, though you also have shielding spells and the like. The latter uses stamina for each lunge, which is something you have to manage if you also want to dodge enemy attacks. These are the main currency of the game and are used to buy items, repair equipment and upgrade not only the player but also your weapons too.īosses drop Demon Souls and while you can devour these for Souls, it’s better to use them to create unique weapons as well as learn new spells and miracles.Ĭombat is mixed between ranged and up close. Killing enemies and demons results in the acquisition of Souls. In that, even if you start out in one class you can upgrade your character to be whatever you want in terms of its stats. You can choose a variety of different classes, but these are only for show really, as the real heart of the game are the various abilities you can upgrade with Souls. Its greedy King has awoken the Old One through excessive use of the Soul Arts and now Boletaria and its neighboring provinces are a wasteland of death. The premise of Demon’s Souls has you wade into the demonically infested country of Boletaria. Showing that From Software has to finally pull its socks up and make something new for a change. With all that in mind, it’s wonderful that Bluepoint Games mostly ignored all of the newer Souls games and thoroughly nailed this remake of Demon’s Souls. The trophies in the 'Demon's Souls' remake are actually a lot of fun to do.
